Mental Health Supportive Housing

Why is Mental Health Supportive Housing Required?

Physical and mental health are equally important to live a peaceful and fulfilling life. Some people encounter physical health problems, and some may face mental health issues due to trauma, grief, or any other factor. However, society does not treat individuals with mental illness the same way it treats people with physical health issues.

People suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other serious mental health issues often face societal stigma. Their mental illness also affects their personal and professional lives. Many of them lost their jobs, and many were abandoned by their families due to their behavioural changes.

They need a society and surroundings that are empathetic towards them. A special housing for people with mental health problems where their condition will be understood and overall support will be provided to become an independent individual.

What Unique People Service Provides?

Unique People Service provides housing for people with mental health issues, along with all-around support for their well-being. Situated in Bronx, New York, UPS is dedicated to not only providing homes for mentally ill patients, but also confronting societal stigma and supporting the individuals to treat their illness.

We have developed Community Residence Single Room Occupancy Bronx residences. In our Haven and Hunter Apartments, we have provided shelter to 98 individuals who were previously homeless and struggling with their mental illness alone. Besides providing shelter, we arrange for comprehensive support for their living and wellness. We help them with medical and psychiatric monitoring, nutritional guidance, case management, recreational activities, etc.

We also provide low income housing for mentally disabled. Through our comprehensive support, we try to provide them with an empathetic and secure atmosphere where they can recover.

UPS also operates seven Supported Housing Programs, with which we provide permanent housing solutions. 183 homeless individuals and their families now have permanent homes as a result of these programs.

Our Aim and Commitment

  • We aim to provide support and shelter to those looking for mental health housing services near me or mental health housing near me.
  • We aim to foster a society where people with mental illness will be accepted in the community.
  • We are committed to breaking the societal stigma around mental illness.
  • We wish to provide a stable housing solution and additional support to homeless people to help them evolve as independent individuals.

We believe that with your backing, we can extend our services to other locations and support more homeless and mentally challenged individuals. Together, we can build a society that is free from stigma around mental illness, transform lives, and create a brighter tomorrow.
