Special Needs Supportive Housing

Tailored Supportive Housing for Individuals with Special Needs

People with special needs are one of the most vulnerable groups. They often do not have access to housing. Many special needs persons are forced to live on the streets in insecure environments. Every year several special needs people living on the streets fall prey to bullying. They are easy targets for criminals and may have difficulty navigating everyday life.

Unique People Services is committed to serving the underserved. We offer special needs supportive housing for people with intellectual, learning, physical, emotional and behavioral disabilities. We never turn down special needs persons who are experiencing homelessness on the basis of their race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and health and criminal history.

We have created a supportive, safe and secure environment in our homes. Our teams offer a range of supportive services designed to help residents build life skills. If a resident needs advanced care, our team can help them find a specialist/counselor. We also help residents pursue further education and undergo training to get job ready.

Our houses are managed by expert teams comprising empathetic professionals. Our professionals make the effort to walk in residents’ shoes. They take the time to really listen to residents and are always willing to lend a helping hand. Their amazing ability to see things from another person’s perspective and feel their emotions sets them apart from their peers.

When a special needs person has too much time on their hands, their mind can wander and they may have negative, self-destructive thoughts. Our house management teams conduct events and recreational activities at regular intervals, ensuring that residents have fun. Fun activities not only engage residents, but also help them stay healthy and mentally alert.

House management teams conduct house meetings regularly to communicate important messages to residents and collect their feedback. During house meetings, residents interact with each other and make lasting friendships.

Every resident is expected to follow house rules set by house management teams. We encourage residents to do household chores such as cleaning their rooms. Household chores give special needs people a sense of purpose, help them develop a strong work ethic, and give them opportunities to practice their motor skills.

We realize the importance of a healthy diet and serve nutritious, healthy meals at our homes. We also offer nutritional counseling and can create customized meal plans for residents who want to improve their health.

A routine provides a sense of predictability and stability. A daily routine can help improve mental and physical health. Our teams help residents create and stick to routines that work for them.
