LYNN’S PLACE: A New Home In The Making For Bronx Residents

UPS closed out 2015 with the momentous groundbreaking of Lynn’s Place, the agency’s first affordable housing unit for mentally challenged individuals and low-income singles and families. First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray and Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito were among a distinguished group of City officials who attended the ceremony, covered by media outlets across the country.

Three months later, construction is well underway at the supportive housing complex. Excavation and soil removal is ongoing, with environmental experts on the scene to monitor air and soil quality every step of the way.

Lynn’s Place, named after UPS founder Lynn Wonsang, is part of Mayor de Blasio’s 15-year plan to create 15,000 affordable housing units in New York, helping to curb city homelessness and provide essential services for those in need.

The 69-unit, energy-efficient residence will help ease the strain of housing costs in a borough where sixty percent of residents earn below the median household income. On-site support services will help to enhance individuals’ independence and improve their quality of life. Ms. McCray praised UPS for its outstanding commitment to ensure that New Yorkers who need housing can get help, “no matter how serious their situation.”

The project is truly a labor of love for everyone at UPS, as well as for our generous supporters who helped fund the project, including the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), Hudson Housing Capital, Capital One Bank, Deutsche Bank, and the office of City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.
