From unemployment to substance abuse, there are several causes of homelessness. Regardless of the cause, homelessness can have devastating consequences for homeless individuals and society. Studies show that homeless people are more prone to health problems such as heart disease and asthma. Many homeless people use drugs as a way of coping with painful feelings. Homelessness can worsen the symptoms of mental health problems.
Unique People Services offers affordable community-based supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. We have created a safe, supportive environment in our homes and offer a range of support services. If a resident wants to continue their education or learn in-demand job skills, our team can help them select the right course or training program.
Homelessness can take a toll on one’s mental health and is a common risk factor for mental disorders. We help residents trying to cope with depression or other mental health problems seek timely professional care.
Our house management teams are composed of experienced professionals. Our empathetic professionals do not judge residents based on their past and treat them with respect. They go above and beyond to make residents feel heard, seen, and understood. Our professionals never deny homeless people services because of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and medical history.
House rules help maintain discipline and promote order. Our house management teams perform inspections regularly to ensure house residents follow house rules. Residents grappling with addiction are required to undergo drug tests at regular intervals. Every house resident must complete tasks assigned to them in a timely manner.
Negative thoughts can come to an idle mind. We conduct events at our houses regularly to engage residents. During events, residents bond with each other and have lots of fun. House management teams conduct house meetings periodically. It is mandatory for residents to attend house meetings. Some purposes of house meetings include communicating important messages to residents, collecting feedback from them, and addressing concerns. They also provide opportunities for residents to interact with each other.
Accountability promotes discipline. We hold residents accountable by letting them know their actions have consequences. Every resident is expected to do household chores such as cleaning their rooms and taking out the trash. Household chores help build confidence, teach life skills and create a sense of accomplishment.
A balanced diet is important for a healthy mind and body. We serve healthy meals at our houses. Our team offers nutritional counseling and can create custom meal plans for residents who want to get their health back on track.
