Unique People Services (UPS) 26th Anniversary Gala - A Celebration of Unique People. This year they are hosting a stellar group of honorees, that are being recognized for their extraordinary philanthropic work to impact the lives of individuals with HIV/AIDS. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Former New York City Mayor, the Honorable David N. Dinkins, by New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray. Honorees also include, the 2017 Individual of the Year, Yessenia Acosta, who was selected from an array of program participants that have overcome insurmountable challenges to lead fulfilling productive lives. Ms. Sheryl Lee Ralph, actress, activist, and Chair and Founder of the DIVA Foundation, which is a foundation that advocates for those effected by HIV/AIDS. Ms. Ralph is this year’s recipient of the agency’s Lynn Wonsang Award, Ms. Jessica Katz of the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development is the recipient of the UPS Champion Award and Mr. Mario Procida, President/CEO of Procida Construction Corp., who will be presented with this year’s Community Award. Both Ms. Katz and Mr. Procida have been instrumental in the launch of Lynn’s Place, UPS’ first affordable housing complex. The evening, will be hosted by ABC News reporter AJ Ross who will present the awards across multiple categories throughout the evening. Additionally, during the event attendees will also be graced with a special performance from entertainment phenomenon, We’ McDonald, season 11 finalist on NBC TV’s the Voice. The evening will include a VIP cocktail reception, dinner and an online auction.

Founded in 1991, Unique People Services, Inc. (UPS) is a New York-based nonprofit 501(c)3 that provides supportive housing and medical case management services to individuals and families living with mental health challenges, developmental disabilities and HIV/AIDS. More than 250 guests are expecting to attend the gala, emceed once again by ABC7 Eyewitness Reporter AJ Ross. A complete dinner, music, dancing, giveaways and silent auction will add to the spirited atmosphere. All proceeds raised at the event will help to enhance the agency’s programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities, HIV/AIDS and mental health challenges.
